And late again, here's day 6's entry! Very short one this time...
Day 6: Unrequited Love
You looked at him. You’ve seen him at his worst. You’ve seen him try his very best to change, less successfully under your guidance than that of the people he suddenly began to hang out frequently with.
Still, he was your best friend, your only friend. No one ever knows of you other than in relation to him.
You looked at her. You’ve never seen her before. Deep down, though, she reminds you so much of him.
You see them both working toward a common goal-of bettering themselves, of trying not to succumb to the will of others.
You knew they were perfect for each other, supporting each other, giving and taking in equal amounts. Even if you didn’t like the sight of it.
Why was that so? You cared for him, more than she ever could. You made sure he was taken care of, picked him up every time he was sad, calmed him down every time he was angry, let him rejoice every time he was happy.
Of course, you knew the answer.
With you, it was always a one-way thing. You told him what to do, you made him do things, you did things for him.
Never with.
They did things together.
That was the big difference, and it was enough.
It really was different, you figured, the love of an equal versus the love of a maternal figurer, which you have unconsciously, but not unwillingly, taken. Surely this development was inevitable, you concluded.
And then you decided, you should get over him as quickly as you could, give them your blessings as a good mother should, and go out and live her life.
That’s right, as your little bird leaves the nest into the big, bad, world.
