The First Newspaper Article on AIDS
It's too late to write much about this, but I thought this article, the first newspaper article ever written on AIDS, was worth posting. It must have been terrifying to watch this unidentifiable disease spreading through your community, dropping so many people you know. For many reasons--most notably, I would say, are massive public awareness campaigns and the increasing acceptance of gay people, allowing us to live more "normal" lives--I don't think we will see something like this ever happen again, thank God.
However, I would still suggest it is worth thinking about, particularly as improved drugs and the ability to live a healthy life despite being HIV+ is leading to a trend of more unsafe sex, and HIV rates are on the rise again, particularly in younger people.
