おひさしぶり、みんなさん!
It's been too long!
Ok, so I decided to translate the new Neo Genesis group interview because a) I need to study Japanese for an upcoming test, b) I haven't posted here in forever and miss doing so, and c) I'm bored out of my mind.
So here's the first part in which Ruki forgets pretty much everything that happened to him in America, questions about recording are shunned, and the topic magically strays to Reita's fail karaoke skills. Oh, and Aoi is bitchy. This interview's going to be a fun ride. :D
Thank you to
rawkstarr23 for the scans, which can be found
here at
gazette_daily. And due to positive reception last time, this interview is colour coded. =)
Neo Genesis Vol.32
Group Interview
Part 1/4
This interview was conducted two days after Ruki came back from L.A., where he went for the mastering of their new single.
To begin, they looked back on everything that's happened from the end of last year to yesterday, conducted a keyword interview for their new single, and discussed their aspirations for 2009.
And with this being the first issue after the New Year, everyone was pretty relaxed.
Enjoy this one-and-a-half-hour-long interview, where their laughs could be heard every five minutes.
---Ruki, when did you come back from L.A.?
Ruki: The day before yesterday.
Reita: I want to hear all about it~
Ruki: I don't really remember it. I got there, went shopping, went to the studio, went shopping, and went shopping.. (laugh) Ah, I went to see a NBA (professional basketball league) game. It was really interesting!
Reita: That's a lie. (laugh) You said you didn't care about it.
---Which teams did you see?
Ruki: The Los Angeles Lakers... and another band I don't know.
Reita: Band...? They're teams! (laugh)
Ruki: It was around a 10,000 capacity stadium, and it really felt like a place they'd do slam dunks in. Like, that's normal to them!
Reita: Like Kobe Bryant?
Ruki: Yeah! He's really amazing!
Reita: Which team won?
Ruki: The Lakers. They scored 3 points in the last 25 seconds and the whole crowd went crazy and was like "hooray!" Like
"Renaissa~~nce!" Aoi: Were there any fights?
Ruki: Yeah, there were. I saw them afterwards.
Reita: Were you close?
Ruki: I was heaps far away. But I saw them. I saw people moving.
All: Ahahahahahaha!! (roar of laughter)
Kai: Well you would've had to have seen that. (laugh)
Reita: That's obvious!
Ruki: They were even more fired up than people at our lives.
---Speaking of which, let's look back on the second half of last year.
Aoi: Bands try not to look back on the past.
---I thought you would say that. (laugh) But I thought that LEECH gaining the highest chart position in the band's history would have increased your motivation while working on the new single.
Aoi: That didn't really have anything to do with it.
Uruha: It increased my motivation.
Ruki: I don't remember, so I can't say anything effective. (laugh)
---Well then, do you have any interesting stories about when you were recording?
Uruha: When we were recording LEECH?
Ruki: Not LEECH! What good would old stories like that be?
Kai: We changed engineers for this single.
Ruki: And the drum sound is completely different.
Kai: I was able to reinforce parts that weren't good enough from the beginning, and control parts I thought were "too big." Because I was able to begin with an ideal sound right from the start, I think the change of engineer was big for the drums.
---What about the other parts?
Uruha: Well, I wasn't overly selfish and found playing easy.
---You were mature about it.
Ruki: We were mature last time as well though.
---(laugh) Also, the recording studio seemed to change each of the parts.
Aoi: That's just the cruelty of adults.
---I see. Well then, this topic is over with!
Aoi: Please ask more effective questions. (laugh)
---Well then (laugh), let's talk about your private lives. How did you spend New Year's?
Reita: On the 30th, I went to a New Year's party back home. He (Uruha) sang [Chage & Aska's]
SAY YES in a really good mood.
Aoi: But you can sing in a really good mood even at a New Year's party.
Uruha: I hope I'll be like that every year!
Ruki: Chage & Aska gets you excited.
Aoi: Well, I didn't get excited.
---Reita, did you sing as well?
Reita: I sang
Negai by the B'z, but my voice, like, turned inside out during the bridge so I gave up.
All: Hahaha!
Reita: Also, [Uruha] sang Guren.
Uruha: I sing it every time!
Ruki: And he puts in harmonies a lot. Even if there aren't any in the original.
Kai: And he's the type to keep the micrphone close to his mouth.
Reita: Also, we had a bowling tournament for the company's New Year party.
Ruki: Our muscles hurt after we did a live and it was horrible.
Uruha: Whenever I go bowling, my arms really hurt. For about a week.
---They hurt for a week?
Reita: The pain subsided for me yesterday. (laugh)
Aoi: I thought "Wow, everyone's gotten older~" For the first game, eveyone was fine. But from the second game onwards, we were exhausted.
Reita: Even if someone got a strike, no one said anything.
Uruha: Even high-fiving got tiresome. (laugh)
---Who got the highest score out of you all?
Uruha: I did this time. But it's normally always Kai.
Kai: That's not true.
Reita: Within the band, he's always ranked 1st or 2nd, but this year he was 3rd.
Ruki: But the female staff got a headstart.
---It sounds like it was a fun New Year's party.
Ruki: I even went to visit a shrine afterwards.
Reita: I didn't.
Ruki: What!?
Uruha: Every year, he doesn't go.
Reita: Because the previous year has gone. So you know that I don't go?
Uruha: I just guessed that was the case.
---And Aoi, did you go back home?
Aoi: No, I didn't.
Kai: Because we had lives from the 3rd...
---I also heard that you couldn't even rehearse.
Aoi: No.
All: Silence......
Aoi: Why did you ask me something like that? (laugh)
