Ok, so, I bought this double CD entitled Metal for the Masses Vol. 3 today from the mall. I'm listening to it right now, and, jesus christ, what a sad state metal is in if this stuff is considered metal. Most of it is just hardcore with slightly longer song lengths and some metal elements. But that's it. The only true metal on here is In Flames (though they stretch it to me), Arch Enemy, and Behemoth. Of those 3, Behemoth is the only group I'd consider true metal players. But they're just a fucking amazing band anyways, so whatever. Extol isn't bad, but I just don't think they are a great band, same with Menmic. Back to the rant though. What the hell has happened to all the dark, heavy shit of the early 90's? The only bands that really seem to approach that level regularly are Behemoth, Opeth (new CD comes out in a week, fuck yes!), and sometimes Cradle of Filth, but even with CoF I thought Nymphetamine to have to many rock elements. Where have all the heavy blastbeats, the anti-Christian/Paganistic lyrics, and insane metal vocals gone? I mean, damn, this is just pathetic if you ask me.
Anyways, I should be studying.
Oh yeah, Bloodbath is on here too, and they kick ass. Though I do wish they still had Mikael from Opeth doing vocals, but oh well, you can't have everything.
