The Post-Vacay Funk

Mar 22, 2004 09:25

Well, I'm back from the AZ, it's Monday morning, and I'm still in Arcadia. Talk about not wanting to really go back, eh? Spring break was a total blast and I hate my post vacation funks because I just want to go back! (Edit: I just found something out about this other lounge that we'd opted not to go to and now I really want to go back...dammit)

[Almost 12 hours later...and I ain't re-editing for shit] Unfortunately, I'm now back in La Jolla... how twisted is it that I would rather be in Scottsdale than in La Jolla right now? And it's not just because of the vacation...dammit!
Let's recap break:
3/12- Went to Citywalk and got my kickass, really pimp Clippers shoot around, throwback jacket. I'm so brilliant(!) I ended up getting free valet parking. After that, went over to Hollywood and picked Rachel up for a quick lunch at El Compadre, the Mexican place right across Guitar Center on Sunset. Dropped her off, then crawled over to the freeway. Instead of sitting through a couple hours of traffic, I opted for surface streets and got home in less than an hour. Wow.

3/13- Chilled and packed

3/14- Went to the Clippers Mavs game. Had pretty good seats again; 100s are good, but these courtside seats I pulled up would have been way better. Ah well, there's next season... when I might pick up a big, fat, juicy season ticket thing. Seats were right next to the Clipper tunnel, and as usual, fun stories always come out of these things. Ask Tina. The game was an absolute blast even though the Clips lost. We were sitting with a bunch of Euros and Mike Smith was over a few rows from us.

3/15- Leave for Phoenix in the morning, get there midday, end up waiting for the car for a little bit. The guy felt bad for us waiting so he hooked us up with one of the best cars on the lot- a 2004 silver, convertible Mustang. Leather interior, mach audio...felt like mine. Drove up to the Scottsdale Plaza Resort, checked in, then drove around. Namely up to the really north side of Scottsdale, around DC and Pinnacle Peak. Found out places closed at 1... talk about a downer but oh well. Oh yeah, we got upgraded to a suite. Boo-yah.

3/16- Left early for Sedona. Absolutely stunning. Had lunch creekside, and the red rocks are just soooo breathtaking. Drove back to Scottsdale, went out.

3/17- Happy St. Patty's Day! Went up to the Fairmount Scottsdale Princess and had the best treatment ever. The "East meets West LaStone Therapy." Talk about luxurious. After a day of getting rid of all the toxins, what better thing to do than fill it back up with them? We started early that day, around 6 to catch happy hour at Maloney's...of course the Irish bar. I was drunk. Want to know what's even funnier? I was hanging out with Mike Tyson. Yes, the crazy Mike Tyson. But, he was nice and he had our backs. He told this girl to go away because he wanted to hang out with us. Talk about being ludicrous, heh. Pictures will follow when I get into contact with my friend out there.

3/18- Hangovers and heat are not a good thing. I felt like I was frying that day, and we decided not to drink because we were paying for it that day. We finally went to our first real dinner out, and we went to Sapporo. Basically a Benihana, teppenyaki place and I had the filet mignon. Food was great, hostess was a bitch. Went out and these guys were so obnoxious and hated the fact that I knew more about sports than they did. Losers.

3/19- Felt much better seeing as I didn't drink the previous night. Sun was still killer. Just so happened that we brought the heatwave with us from SoCal. Ah well...it's better than rain. We hit up the RA sushi over there...the first or second one of the chain. Random that RA started there. After some sushi, headed over to Mist. What's fantastic about this area of Scottsdale is that all the clubs, lounges, and bars are in this 3 block radius so it's easy to bar hop. Carlos Baerga was actually DJ'ing...and let's just say he should stick to baseball. Funny stuff.

3/20- Went to the Phoenician for a shea butter wrap and that was relaxing as well. We ate poolside and the waiter thought I was cute and he was above average, I suppose. Went to Nordstrom's after we got changed for the night and the girl who helped us was very helpful...too bad we didn't know about Suede and some of the other places that were cool. We went to Mastro's up by Pinnacle Peak and the bartender was really nice and reminded me of Chavy. He hooked us up with our martinis. Dinner was a blast and we were surrounded by a bunch of ballplayers and their agents. They were all trying to take pictures of us and it was funny because I just ended up posing in the background of one of their pictures when they were actually just taking a picture of me. Guess you just had to be there, but it was great. Ended up going to Axis/Radius, and seriously... people don't lie about all the athletes in the area. We "cruised" the area and then went back to the suite and packed. We left the next day and I've been bummed out ever since we left the ground in Phoenix.

After that very short recap (many details scratched out), I concluded a few things:
- A certain fiancee hates me, yet I find amusement in it. Don't worry, I didn't do anything.
- Mike (first name basis, of course) isn't as scary as one would think...in a public place.
- I don't think I realize just exactly how many athletes I ran into... even a golf pro on the shuttle.
- I really like this guy. It sucks.
