Fannish 50 Challenge 2024: Post # 20: At the Escapade Con That I Missed

I have a long history with attending Escapade in California, the world's longest-running slashcon. Sadly, I missed Escapade's 34th year earlier this month, but thanks to being informed by kadymae, I know that I was well-remembered. My absolute dedication to dSC6D fandom is well-known and I am both appreciated and feared as a relentless bidder at Escapade'

Oh, I love that. Did you ever know Crysothemis in the DS fandom? The reason I ask is she's one of my best friends. I writer to her every day! So if you two know each other, I'll have to let her know I've met you!

She got into the Stargate fandom after Due South and did some kick ass drawings of the actors in that show. That's how I met Jason Momoa. I have a very funny story about her from the Chicago Creation Con and Jason Momoa.

Crysothemis and I don't know each other but over the course of time I have read all her dS fic that's on the old dSFA...and I know that all her works on AO3 are Stargate. Would you encourage her to put her dS fic on AO3 so I can leave comments? (speranza is leaving the dSFA site up but the comments section no longer functions.)

Wish I'd known all y'all were at one of the Creation Cons in Chicago -- would have been cool to do a fannish meetup. (And are you going to share that funny story from that Creation Con?)

BTW, I was at a Stargate Creation Con in Chicago too, but not the same year you guys were there.

Interesting! I went I think one more time, and I don't know if Crys went more. She may have since she lives outside of Chicago. But I'm glad you went to one. We always had a blast at them.

Do you ever go to Chicagoland to visit Crys when it's not also for a con? Do you -- does she -- ever go to the Chicagoland multifandom con called CONfabulation?

She probably hasn't lately. She's in the process of trying to get her house ready to sell. So she's been really occupied.

But maybe we could arrange for something in the future. That would be fun!

Selling the house but staying in Chicagoland, or moving farther away?

(I've been through selling one house and moving to another. I know how much that makes for "being really occupied".)

She lives in Evanston, so she's just outside of Chicago. She's staying there, but downsizing. She's by herself in the house now (well, other than three cats).

Ah. She's a North-sider and I'm a West-sider, but we are both in Cook County. What a thing to find out so many years after I had started reading her due South fic, that she is a fellow Chicagoland local. (Also, I'm very familiar with Evanston because my spouse went to Northwestern University in Evanston.)
