Mask
The mask was held in his tight grip as he heard the unmistakable footsteps coming up the stairs, towards his bedroom. Sounded like four of them at least, running to hasten his death for the betrayal of their Lord and Master.
If only Sirius had listened to him, heard his plea for a redeemer that only an older brother could provide, taken him in rather than shut him out with everything else that was of Black.
The younger brother, now facing execution from those he had considered a family, a family that was more tightly knitted than the blood of his own.
A sigh escaped his lips as the voice of his once best friend was heard outside the door;
“The punishment awaits, Regulus.” Rabastan spoke against the closed door. His voice was of a condescending manner as if he had cornered a fat child to be bullied.
A loud crash came as the door exploded before Regulus, who did not flinch as the mahogany door fell in splinters before his feet.
The band of brothers, veiling their faces as their wand pointed at the unmasked betrayer. His own mask was still held tightly.
“By order of the Dark Lord, death has come for you, my Brother.” A jet of green light, expelled from the younger Lestrange’s wand made its way towards Regulus’s chest.
His mask fell to the floor, two seconds before his own lifeless body followed.
