The Riddle

So there is this song called The Riddle. Its by Five for Fighting, I have been trying to figure it out since I was introduced to the song.

I have given it a lot of thought lately and so far this is what I have come up with.
The song asks,

"here's a riddle for you find the answer. There's a reason for the world you and I."

When I first heard it I thought, dumb riddle. It's more of a rhetorical question. Then I thought further as I listened to it more.

It could be that there is a reason for the world, you, and I. Which would make much more sense. The way that it is written in the lyrics and the way it is sung leads me to believe that it might not be that way. I can't say that with out a shadow of a doubt though. If it is I think that we can look at this as trying to discover some underlying force. Something more powerful then love. A sense of being. Through life as you grow old you find the meaning of life. I believe life is more for the journey and not the destination. So in the short I guess the meaning of the world, you and I is all about the journey not about the world, you or I.

My other thought is that the reason for the world is you and I and you have to find that out exactly. I think this route requires a little bit more abstract thinking. One can go with the cookie cutter answer and say love. I believe there is so much more to that then just love. I think there are all sorts of feelings that are pulled for and involved when talking about love and the reason for the world. In a completely christian aspect Love saved the world. Christ died because he loved us and God sent Christ because he loved us.

I began thinking about families and the love there. We can start out love being between two people (you and I). Their love brings them together as one through marraige and they bring someone else into this world (you and I). In building a great relationship with the child the child is able to go and create relationships with others (you and I). There are so many "You and I" relationships that it forms the world. Maybe the reason for the world is you and I. In any sense the song provokes some thinking.
