That was a very enjoyable read! I was listening to a recording of the Shadow earlier today ("Murder in the Death House") because this has put me in such a mood for the 1930s/1940s. Now I'm going to read some of The Spirit. I can picture several of these scenes in aclassic comic book style. I love it! ^_^
Eeee! Fellow Shadow fan! I only hear it on the radio. I've really got to get it on CD so I can enjoy whenever I want. It's so good. I have no read The Spirit yet, but I know I really should.
It's really something! I'm thinking I should buy the Shadow cds for my Dad as well, because it'll be sure to make him nostalgic. :)
If you pick up Will Eisner's comic, I recommend "The Best of The Spirit" TPB. It's got some great selections and gives taste of just how creative and innovative a comic book creator Eisner was in a time that comics were not being well-considered as a literary form.
I think if I got it, I would be obligated to share it with my parents. It's their fault I even know it exists.
Thank you for your recommendation! I've always intended to check it out simply because, well, there has to be a reason that he has an award named after him.
Oh, indeed, he earned the right to have an award named after him. In a time when a lot of comics were churned out in similar styles and names (I just finished reading "The Ten-Cent Plague", so...), Eisner really took the crime drama genre and made it his own. His art is impressive, since he would master every rule and then systematically break each one. And his stories were great, sharing the central theme of the Spirit, but incorporating all sorts of points of view and interesting characters. I highly recommend it

OH MY GOD HOW COULD I HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT VICTIMS BEING TIED TO TRAIN TRACKS. ... Which is sad, because if any childhood media resulted in warping my sexuality it was that sort of ridiculousness. And because Julio would be SO PISSED.
rukia if I could hug you through the internet, I would.
There will be many of those things and more, which is to say that "Astounding Adventures" will, indeed, be a continuing series. I need to go to the gym and ponder over various ideas that I have, as well as overdose my poor brain on noir films and old comic books. It should have interesting results.
E-hugs, jet packs, and a helmet that lets me type with my brain. Coming to you in 2050, or later.
I must find someway to get Julio tied to the train tracks. It's not like he'd be in any real danger, but I don't think he's want to risk civilian lives by knocking a train off the tracks. It doesn't fit into the next adventure I have planned, but I will make this work.
It's gonna suck when I see my great-grandkids zooming around in jet packs and my hips to bad to join in. "Oh, well, it TOOK 'em LONG enough!"
Hehehe, Ben will have to be very tactful about the whole debacle afterwards. I'm sure for weeks Julio won't be able to even look a model train set without developing an angry twitch.
It's just embarrassing. Poor Julio. I will definitely have to come up with a way to make him rescue Shatterstar... again. Because his ego is rather fragile.

I'm still waiting for effective E-Hugs to be invented and introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show. (That and personal Jet Packs.)
Yay! I look forward to more of their adventures! XD
