Poor thing - too young to let her become cynical! Maybe Bono will have a super-speedy recovery.

Totally off topic:
I was thinking about books to recommend for Brandon and seeing this picture actually made me think of a good one. I am a HUGE Neil Gaiman fan (he's the one on the far right) and have read all of his books (except for 'Stardust, which I couldn't seem to get into but I thought the movie based on it was cute). Anyway, last year he published another children's book that wound up winning the Newbery Award. I think I wrote about it in my LJ last year but didn't make the connection for your son until now.

The name of it is The Graveyard Book and although there are somewhat scary parts (okay, like the beginning where the central character's parents get murdered), the premise is so unique (he gets raised by ghosts in a nearby graveyard) and Gaiman's storytelling so clever that I think he would like it. I think you would, too. Tell me that you don't fall in love with Silas.

Another great book he might like is The Invention of Hugo Cabret by by Brian Selznick. (I hear Martin Scorsese has the movie rights and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with it.) At face value it looks like a child's picture book, but inside is a fantastic story of discovery and adventure and friendship. Actually this would be a great book to read to both your kids and I know you will love how he weaves the beautiful pencil drawings into the story itself (no small reason why it won A Caldecott Medal).

See how sneaky I am, getting your kids to read the books I recommend?
;)
