House news

My mum and dad have finally - FINALLY! - been made an offer for their house, a year after they put it on the market. They’ve accepted it, even though it’s a fait bit lower than the asking price, which itself has been dropped considerably. Still, it’s the only thing that was on the horizon, and we’re all desperate to get things moving now. Next step - the buyers have to arrange a land search and a survey before contracts can be exchanged. Once that happens, hopefully within the next couple of weeks, we can maybe breathe a little more easily. Until then, anything could happen.

Then, we will engage our builder. The one we want is working 6 weeks ahead at the moment, which is perfect for us as it means he could start soon after completion if we booked him once contracts were exchanged. The job will take around 11 weeks, apparently, so I doubt my mum and dad would be in with us by Christmas, but at this stage in the game I just want it to be in progress, I won’t ask for more!

In my head I am planning like crazy, but I can’t actually voice it or do anything practical yet. It’s too soon, and besides, I don’t want to jinx it! It’s all keeping me awake at night, though. Joe too, although he’s more worried about the financial side and things falling through. I am, too, but I think my subconscious prefers to be preoccupied with boxes and storage, not money worries. Which are huge, and beyond my control, so I just have to trust the estate agent and the solicitors and the buyers that they will all do the best they can to expedite the sale and not drop out!
