VEGAS YTDAWCON !!
Had an absolute blast at the YTDAWCon in Vegas August 4-7, 2006 but I've decided I'm too old to go without sleep for 3 nights and not much food. Me and about 32 other female CSI fans bombarded Sin City. We had ladies from Germany, The Netherlands, South Korea, Canada and all over the US attending. Started the weekend out right with a shot of Tequila at 10:30 AM Friday morning.
We had a hospitality suite at the Sahara Hotel and the suite was the same one that The Beatles stayed at way back in 1964! How cool was that?!!
We rode several of roller coasters, including Speed the Ride at the Sahara (which was used in an episode of CSI...AWESOME roller coaster!!) and 3 at the Stratosphere...one of which scared the crap out of me...and I LOVE roller coasters. I didn't get to ride the other big coaster at New York, New York (also used in an episode of CSI) but others did.
In a stroke of good fortune, 2 of the CSI actors and researchers for CSI, David Berman and Jon Wellner, were giving a lecture at UNLV to help raise awareness about forensics and also to help Las Vegas raise money for a new crime lab. I was fortunate enough to have my picture taken with them.
On Saturday, we all piled in a stretch limo for dinner and then went to Fremont Street and took in all the sights. Saw a Rod Stewart impersonator performing and he was great! When it was time to leave, the limo driver wasn't available to pick us up but he had overhead our (very loud) conversations in the limo and said he was sending his buddy to pick us up. Turns out his buddy drives a stripper/party bus, complete with stripper poles, mirrors on the roof and laser lights. And the stripper bus was used in an episode of CSI from last season! And I hear there is video footage and photos for blackmail purposes!
In between all that, we hung out in our suite watching episodes of CSI and Billy Petersen movies (we're big fans of him as well). One highlight was watching one of the ladies watch Kiss the Sky for the 1st time. It was a hoot!!!
Glad the trip was last weekend and not this past one...what with all the havoc the recent foiled terrorist plots have wrecked on travelers.

The weekend really was amazing. Spending time with the gals from YTDaW was awesome! There was a wide range of ages and nationalities represented. I hope we can do something like this again.
Now I have Providence to look forward to! I have tickets for 3 shows to see Billy Petersen in Dublin Carol at the Trinity Rep Theater. Matinee on 12/20, evening performances on 12/20 and 12/21. I figured if I was going all that way to see him, I should really see him!
