I spilt coffee over my computer mouse this afternoon and - wiping it dry - looked at it properly for the first time in twelve years.
The plastic casing is yellowing and smudged with fingerprints, and a strip of sellotape protects the wheel. Dirt of some kind has gathered around the protective pads on the bottom, and stray hairs have attached to the dirt, giving my mouse the appearence of whiskers (perhaps it's evolving into the real thing).
Twelve years of hard slog at the firm and the poor thing is grubby, smudged and bashed around the edges, but still going strong. I wonder if the same can be said of me.
When I leave the firm, I will take it into the countryside and release it into the wild.
