There's nothing like starting a new job and then immediately taking a vacation.
A couple months ago Steve and I were discussing his 35th birthday and he did not want to be stuck in LA when it happened. At the same time, he didn't want to be at Comic-Con in San Diego, which happens to be the same weekend. While he loves Comic-Con and we do get to see some friends there, our time with any one group is very limited, and shoving your way through crowdsor waiting in line for a panel you may or may not get into (on your birthday) wasn't that appealing.
So we're heading to Puerto Vallarta, where we can sleep in our suite at
Casa Cupula (pictured left), lounge on the beach, drink fruity beverages, go out clubbing and spend time with friends Matt and Rick. We hang with those boys a lot but the four of us haven't traveled together since the Mondo Homo book tour in 2005.
I want to zipline through the jungle. The other Rick wants to parasail. We all want to shop for cheap stuff we can't afford in the US-- like Diesel jeans and other cute clothes. My worry is flying in next Thursday and blowing it out so big on the first night that Friday and Saturday are a bust. Steve's the youngest in our group, and none of us can drink like we did way back.
Of course, I also have to find Steve a birthday gift. I have an idea, but it might take some sneaking... (And no, I'm not giving hints here. He does read the blog, after all.)
