Walking in the Cold

Jan 03, 2008 16:26

This morning was just about as cold as yesterday (right around 0°F), but with a little wind to add to the wintry feel. But today I had my new winter coat to try out . . . my first decent winter coat in a dozen years, at least . . . and it would have been a shame not to take a walk under those circumstances.

It fits me like the casing fits a sausage, but it kept me cozy. I knew the comfort difference was real five minutes into my walk when I realized that my shoulders were completely relaxed. Normally on a cold day, they'd be hunched in a futile effort to keep me warmer. My face still took the brunt of the cold, and I'm going to need a scarf or balaclava (face mask) if I'm to continue these January morning walks outdoors. And I do enjoy them so much more than walking the malls.

Dropping 10 or 15 pounds should go a long way toward making the jacket a better fit.
Soundtrack from My Morning Walk

Today's playlist is just a random selection from my newly-revised "least-recently-played Best of Greatest Hits" smart playlist, which takes the 100 songs from my "Best of Greatest Hits" playlist that have gone the longest without being played. Today's selections were last played back in late October and early November.

There was a little extra time dragging all the accumulated recyclables out to the street. But that's at least as physically demanding as the walk itself, so I didn't feel the need to interrupt the soundtrack for it.
