My dance card is filling up fast. The department winter outing is set for Monday, December 3--we're going out for pizza and indoor go-kart racing, followed by self-directed retiring to a local drinking establishment for some beverages and trivia. There's nothing quite like getting good and liquored up on a work night. At least it's on the north end of town . . . my drive home from the festivities should be no more than forty-five minutes.
I've also got my annual "Tweenday" lunch with mom scheduled for the 13th . . . it's not between our birthdays, but it's as close as we're likely to get this year. I've muddied the waters a bit by taking the next three Fridays off, and I've got some plans, at least for the 14th. There is some chance that mom may have to reschedule; my folks are on a sort of death watch for a friend of my stepdad's who's in the final stages of terminal cancer, and the funeral will take precedence.
The evening of the 13th is also my first opportunity to hear my son play his flute as part of the band he's involved with. Their Christmas concert is that very night. He's been practicing diligently, and I hear the improvement every week. It's amazing to me how far he's come in the short time that he's been playing.
Soundtrack from My Morning Walk
I didn't walk yesterday, and that seems to have averted the incipient blister forming on my left heel. I walked today, and my feet feel fine. And the shortening of daylight has taken away the feeling of exposure I had been having . . . my walk is, once again, conducted under a dark cloak of privacy.

I don't deserve this award, but I have arthritis and I don't deserve that either.
