I managed to stay busy through a four-day weekend without accomplishing much of anything. I cooked a turkey, played D&D, donated blood, and watched quite a bit of football. I also read most of Quicksilver: The Baroque Cycle Volume 1, saw "The Grifters", and made sushi. In between all that, I took a couple of nice walks, stayed current on all the podcasts I subscribe to, and played a fair amount of "Empire Earth".
I don't know how I ever watched football before DVR. They break for three commercials every time one of the players sneezes. In the last two weeks, I've taken to watching most of the 3rd and 4th quarter at 4x speed, switching to normal speed when it looks like someone might score and backing up whenever something amazing happens. That's how I got through the Bears-Broncos game (including sudden death overtime) in an hour and a half yesterday.
Soundtrack from My Morning Walk
I got a late start this morning, as I was waiting for any indication that the sun was coming up. But this close to the winter solstice, evidence of daylight doesn't penetrate to my computer desk very well until some time after I should really be out on the road walking; eventually, I looked at a clock and decided I needed to get started, light or no. It wasn't really that dark outside.
I think I must be "over-pronating", as I'm developing a blister on the back outside edge of my left foot. I hope to walk through it in the next few days . . . I just feel so much better when I'm walking regularly.

Quote of the Day
You will find that the State is the kind of organization which, though it does big things badly, does small things badly, too.
