Saturday night we went the Yellow Dog Tavern in Versailles, IN for an open mic night comedy show. I did 8 1/2 minutes and it went pretty well. I did some old, proven material mixed in with some of the new stuff I've been working on the last couple of weeks. The "UK fans are rednecks" joke was over like rover in Versailles, IN. I used that as my closer and got a really nice ovation for that one. I heard there were a couple of people in the crowd who looked pissed so I'm glad I could once again reach out to the Kentucky fans. I did that joke at 316 Ormsby a couple of weeks ago and a UK fan sitting at the bar turned around and gave me the finger. I didn't notice it at the time or I would have told him how he just proved my joke!
Anyway, the show at Versailles was cool. This comedian from Cincy named Tyrone stole the show by doing an incredible set.
The show at The Ormsby this past week was ok at best. It was another small crowd. My set was ok - it definitely was not the smashing success of the week before. My friend
Roy Been stole the show that night with his blow-away set. The only thing this crowd was laughing at was jokes about sex so Roy did every sex-related joke he had and the crowd loved every second of it. If I have to rely on sex jokes to get all of my laughs then I am in trouble. I tried to pick out a few of my new jokes that I thought would work and got mixed results. A couple of them worked ok - I think 1 of those jokes has major potential.
I'll be back at 316 Ormsby this Wednesday. I hope to do some of the new jokes that I chose not to do last week. Jim will love one of the new jokes I've written because it is about politics.
Later,
Rich
