2nd bolt

((Action, 1124 Taylor Road; public))The last time Thor drank mead, it was out of a cauldron five miles deep, in a golden hall surrounded by the greatest of the Aesir, all toasting his strength with every foaming horn-full they swallowed. Mayfield, however, has neither bottomless cauldrons, nor golden halls, nor, for the most part, Aesir. He's sick ( Read more... )

[Rider's just walking home when oh man something smells divine]

Oi. Whatever you're cooking in there, it's smelling pretty amazing.

[Man, it is tragic how few people in this town recognize the smell of mead brewing, in Thor's opinion.]

Mead, my friend! And it's only just been set to boil!

I've had the taste of many fine liquors in my conquests, but never that of mead! I'd be a fool to not partake in these celebrations!

The mead must needs wait, my friend - it takes time to brew good mead, and months more to give it strength. All I can offer you is beer, and maybe, in time, a livelier celebration!

[He'll give a friendly laugh.]
Well, I'll guess I'll be around here again to give some of that a taste! A king who wants to live hard like myself would never pass up the opportunity to have a beer now and a better drink later! The mead will be a worthy drink to toast with when we finally conquer this place and set out to what's beyond this town's borders.

You think to conquer this realm? [Thor's interest is piqued.] I've heard similar elsewhere - but I'm told it's no easy undertaking, friend!

[he smirks, cracking open a beer and taking a very large swig] Of course. That's half the fun of it, though! I'd love to see this entire world, experience it all... just to see what's on the very edge of the sea of stars above us. The smaller I feel, the more impossible the goal may seem... the happier I am.

[A grin breaks over Thor's face. This is exactly the kind of mortal he likes best.]

There was a time my brothers and I walked the nine worlds together when the mood took us. We needed no reason but that some corner of them might remain unwalked - though I'd be disappointed to think that time will leave us with no new place to roam.

[He lifts his beer in a toast.] I'll drink with you, my friend-- to strange stars and brave company in the realms without roads!

[He smiles as he lifts his beer as well. These two are going to have such a good friendship.]

Amen, friend. It pleases me to see those who have done as I did here. You would have fit well marching along with me back in those days of the Macedonian empire!

[He offers a handshake to Thor, beaming proudly]

Name's Alexander. Or Rider. Doesn't matter either way, as I'm still the King of Conquerors at the end of the day!

[Thor goes for the handshake, but rather than taking Rider's hand, he grasps his forearm instead, as he's accustomed to having done in his own time and place.]

I am Thor, son of Odin - called many things, but now is not the time for dreary lists of titles. Tell me, where did you march, that you call yourself conqueror but have never seen mead?
