Work, work, work

So, I figured that, at 7 days in, a work update was in order.

My first week went off pretty much without a hitch. While part of my job is just to run glorified web-cams, most of the rest of the job deals with legal stuffs, so I have this entire different language to learn so that I can keep all of this straight. Luckily, about 90% of what with deal with for videos is the same two or three things over and over. Primarily we deal with today's Legal Word of the Post:

Bench Warrant:
If you are supposed to be in court for any reason, but don't show up, the judge can issue a Bench Warrant. This is different from a standard warrant in that it is initiated by the judge, and not a law enforcement official. If police run a check on you for any reason, and you have an outstanding Bench Warrant, they are obligated to arrest you, and hold you until you have a Bench Warrant Revocation Trial in front of a judge.

Most of our videos are people who were picked up for bench warrants, since the video is much cheaper and simpler than busing them to the courthouse for two minutes in front of a judge.

Now for the bad news: The video department consists of myself, and my manager, Sharon Drach. This morning I was informed that Sharon's mother had passed away last night, so Sharon will be in Pittsburgh for, possibly, a week. This means that I have to run the department myself, with only one week of training. I'm sure this will be nothing but fun.
