Yesterday was a day of many firsts for me.
The day started out with International Orientation, and I met my international classmates for the very first time. Internationals represent around 40% of the batch at Columbia, and there were almost 300 of us. They were an interesting bunch - all very successful yet down to earth and very friendly. Sadly, I was the only Pinoy in the bunch so I ended up hanging out with the Mexicans (who I impressed with my delivery of hijo de puta and punyeta), the Thais, or the Taiwanese (who I impressed with my delivery of chi bay, piyaw si and lan chiyaw bin).
In the evening, I went to my first ever Happy Hour, a Columbia Business School tradition usually held during Thursdays. This is because we get Fridays off, for us to supposedly "network" with companies or "engage" in worthwhile extracurricular activities. I think the real reason is for us to recover from hangover. Three (or four?)beers and a tequila shot later, I was swaggering through the campus grounds to get to my apartment. Thankfully, I did not throw up at the lift -- something I am accustomed to doing back in SingaBore.
Last night was also the first night I slept in my apartment. I love my new bed. All I can say is it was well worth the 700 dollars I shelled out.
