Ano Raw? @ Fitness First

I have always heard of how horrendous Fitness First is when it comes to billing. I have never experienced any problems with them, until yesterday when I was attempting to cancel my membership.:

Me: Miss, I want to cancel my membership.
Fitness First B***ch (FFB): Okay sir, when would you like it to be effective?
Me: End of this month, please.
FFB: Sir, that's not possible. The earliest we can terminate it is September. We need one month's notice.
Me: Err... diba July 4 pa lang today? So August 4 is fine.
FFB: You missed the first of the month, which is our processing date, so you need to pay for the whole month of August too.
Me: Ha? Are you sure?
FFB: Yes sir.
Me: Eh aalis na ako ng country sa July 27. Hindi ko na sya gagamitin.
FFB: (gives me a blank look)
Me: Besides, I am canceling my credit card. Hindi nyo rin machacharge. Kayo lang ang mapapagod. Gusto nyo ba nun?
FFB: Bahala kayo sir, magkakaroon kayo ng record dito sa amin. At tsaka we will keep sending you demand letters.
Me: Okay lang, nasa States naman na ako. Send all the letters you want. I am never coming back. Bye.

Flashback: 2 years ago, when I cancelled my membership in Singabore. I asked for it merely weeks away from my date of departure, and they pro-rated my bill and credited it back to my account.

My friend Vince also tried to do the same thing yesterday at a different branch. And the same stupid thing happened.

I can't believe how some companies find it okay to fool the hapless consumer, and would rather take the complex route for something so simple to process. If they can sell memberships any day of the month, why can't they terminate?
