Deactivated

I never did plan to vote yesterday. I was sure my name wasn't on the list because I did not participate in the past 2 elections. But after seeing my co-OFW Micey's blog entry, I decided to give it a shot. Besides, seeing everyone's violet fingers made me kinda jealous! So I drive all the way from Farview to Sta Mesa Heights to exercise my right of suffrage. The school (aka polling precinct) was littered with so much paper (sample ballots, posters, etc), it looked like Ozone Disco waiting to happen. Even the streets two blocks away were strewn with paper! Grabe.

So anyway, I go up to my precinct and look for my name. Darn, wala. I asked the teachers what to do if my name wasn't there, and they produced a Deactivated Voter's List. True enough, my name was there.

Teacher: Sorry, sir, deactivated na kayo.
Me: Bakit?
Teacher: Di po kasi kayo bumoto for the past two elections (Oo nga naman, nasa Singabore ako eh!)
Me: Ahhh... Pwede ko bang i-reactivate ngayon?
Teacher: Ay hindi eh, sa next elections nalang kayo. Pa-reactivate nyo next time.

So there. I feel so rejected. Funny thing was, my mom and my brother (who hasn't voted for the past THREE elections) were on the list of qualified voters.

Don't you just love Third World randomness?

elections, rants
