Tonight is the official opening night of "The Producers" at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in London. I'm so chuffed for Lee Evans that he got a deal as big as this and I hope he makes a huge success of it. I'm now very much excited about heading down to the capital on Saturday to see it for myself. :D
News that has fuelled my excitement even more is that Richard Dreyfuss pulled out of the production to be replaced by Nathan Lane, the totally under-rated actor (voice of Timon in "The Lion King" no less!) who starred in the Broadway production. Fact is that Lane and Evans are already best of buddies after appearing in the comedy "Mouse Hunt" and as his experience knows no bounds, the cast and crew of "The Producers" are thanking their lucky stars that Lane is standing in until January 2005. His profile in this country surely has to rise as a result of treading the UK boards. Get your tickets and witness a legendary Broadway performance while you can!
I'm getting goose pimples just thinking about the fact that we'll be in the second row in front of Lane and Evans on Saturday afternoon. It's one of those moments that will never feel real even during the event and after the event has passed. Obviously we'll watch "The Producers" and "Mouse Hunt" on DVD before we head to the West End. Someone pinch me please!
