Some things I read in today's papers that amused me:

A Vulcan aircraft has gone on sale on Ebay with a minimum bid of only £6000. It is taking up valuable space at Blackpool Airport but the owner of the Blackpool Air Centre has said that "whoever gets it will have to come up here and cart it away as it's certainly not flyable." The item can be viewed here!

It has been reported that 20% of Americans rely on comedy programmes for their news.

A banana, half-eaten and signed by GMTV presenter Kate Garraway (see image below) managed to fetch £1,650 on Ebay! It was listed on the auction site as a joke after an on-air discussion about the auction site.

American actor Nathan Lane, who starred in the Broadway production of "The Producers", has saved the West End version of the same musical by replacing Richard Dreyfuss who was sacked for not being able to master the dance routines. Lane will star in the musical until January and receive £38,000 a week (on top of an agreed £100,000 fee) for his efforts, dwarfing the £7000 a week that his co-star Lee Evans will receive!

"If your views can be described in a maximum 160 characters, you don't deserve a vote."
(Perrier nominee Chris Addison on people who send their views into news programmes via text messaging.) Incidentally, Addision also believes that a mark of the civilised is someone who refuses to text unless it is "fully written out and punctuated". Nice one Chris!

"When I was a kid, a flag on your car meant you were mayor. Now you're a pikey. You know the sort of place: a lot of sports gear, not a lot of sport being played."
(Chris Addison again, this time reflecting on those people who fly St. George flags from their cars.)
