And so my birthday week begins. I've really got to work my ass off this week but I've got a fair few evenings to look forward to along the way beginning with a Kings Of Convenience gig at the Warwick Arts Centre tonight. A little adventure really as its a venue I've never been to and I'm not sure just how easy or difficult it is to get to and from but it will be interesting to find out.
I officially hit 27 on Thursday so if anyone wants my address, I'll gladly send it to you via e-mail. All birthday cards, presents and cheques would be gratefully received. ;)
I bought the new Beautiful South single this morning and I don't quite know what to make of it. It's a cover of "Livin' Thing", originally performed by ELO but I think they've tried to do too much to it instead of keeping it simple. It's nice to hear Dave Hemingway on vocals again but even then, he can't hit some of the notes that well. They could have found another song to suit his voice much better but not all is lost as the B-sides are pretty good. Here's hoping the other tracks on their album of covers that comes out next Monday are a step up from the single though.
Talking of covers (and this is shameful but true), I saw Maroon 5 cover "Hello" by Oasis on Saturday night at the Birmingham Academy. I attended the gig with two mates and my wife and I went along for the company more than the band but they rocked on this one track like I thought they never could. Easily the highlight of the gig and my weekend.
