Just what game are you playing?

So I've mostly managed to avoid blogging about my belated introduction to Lost here, but halfway through season 4 there are two realisations I need to exorcise:

1. every single major character has a look. Like Zoolander's Blue Steel (on which, this). Reminds me that TV/movie acting is a subdiscipline of modeling, but that actors can get away with being ugly in specific ways.

2. my initial suspicion that the writers are roleplayers continues to receive hints of confirmation. Specifically, I'm thinking the whole series is a game of Tweet/Laws' Over the Edge, but that Desmond's player is an occasional Paranoia GM, and has been getting some special note-passing and vindictive current-GM payback, over and above the other players. But now here come the 4 from the freighter - and they're clearly a CoC party (scientist, magical adept and two muscle characters... the iconic CoC counterpoint to the mage, god-botherer, cat burglar and low-browed fighting man).

So is this a clash of two campaigns?

Or has their GM been planning this cross-system meeting all along?

(addendum: Zak kindly supplies the ideal version-wars ending argument. Take it as read that I occupy both positions in this dialogue)
