does anyone know how I can archive my lj entries?

I've gone looking for some of my old lj entries recently, because I spent time thinking and writing them, and they don't seem very easily retrievable or searchable. Does anyone know how to get a download of the whole lot, or render them more searchable? (NB: this is on a Mac, in case you know of any third party software for this kind of thing).

I'm starting to think I should keep local copies of everything and just upload what meets my quality control filters a few days after writing. Thoughts? Frustrations?
