but no one ever, ever knows the difference between less and fewer, aside from a few lovely pedants. In supermarkets they often have a 10 items or less counter. :(
good article. and i agree with it all. however, the whole way through, i was shouting "THIS GUY DOESN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING" in my head. football makes us stupid, yes, but we clearly like it that way.
I was confused as to whether he was saying that money is root of all evil in football, or complacent apathy on the part of the fans is the reason the sport is in such a state?
Just look at the American Hockey League. The federation wanted to put a cap on wages and transfer prices. The clubs, players and owners put their feet down and refused to play ball (or puck?). The 2004-5 season was a whitewash as clubs cancelled the season completely and it was the first time since 1919 that the Stanley Cup wasn't awarded. The dispute lasted 310 days.
Are we willing to risk such a debacle with football because I don't think Abramovich would be willing to bring financial sanity back to the game, and as the article says, who really gives a crap what the fans think.
