Salad Days

I just got home from the first day of a new class of "Project Me". Whew! It's wonderful, seeing a room full of people's faces light up when they realize they can do what it takes to feel good about themselves, but a whole day of coaching and cheerleading can take a lot out of you. Right now, I'm wiggling my bare feet and drinking a refreshing glass of ice-cold seltzer water. It's one of those times when I wish somebody would invent low-cal vodka.

One of my new students gave me the sweetest gift, an old video game she'd found when she was cleaning out her basement last weekend.

I've got another big day of "Project Me" tomorrow, and then I'm hosting a barbecue on the 4th. I've still got to buy a few things. We'll have shredded cabbage and carrots tossed with apple cider vinegar, corn on the cob with lime juice and ground red pepper, and skinless chicken breasts with sugar-free BBQ sauce. Fresh sliced tomatoes, and for dessert, fresh peaches. One of the best things about living in LA is the delightful produce year-round!

I wouldn't be telling you the truth if I didn't admit that I have a few sneaky little thoughts about what everybody else is eating on the 4th. I tell myself, it's not like they're going to be serving anything new that I've never had before. It'll be the same food they served 40 years ago, when I weighed close to 300 pounds.
