My first BJD. No box opening pictures because I tore it open the moment I walked out of the post office and got into my car. No camera.
At the moment, Mizu is just a head. I had plans to get her a Blue Fairy Blossom body. At the moment, Blue Fairy has closed down their US sales. Hopefully they will reopen by the time I have money.
Mizu's head came very clean except for a seam line on either side of her head above the ears. I used 320 and 400 grit wet-dry sand paper. I may have finished it with 600 grit, I can't remember. I did do wet sanding... I haven't noticed if people wet sand their seams, but I don't see how it would hurt the resin any.
The inside of Mizu's head.
The eye sockets seemed a little rough, and one side looked more shaved than the other, so being slightly anal retentive, I sprayed her head with Testor's DullCoat, put on a couple of layers of Testor's Contour Putty and then sprayed with DullCoat again, trying to make sure to get the putty coated.
The lashes, eyebrows and lips were done with Liquitex Acrylics and Slow-dri Blending Fluid Medium. I used a Loew-Cornell 18/0 Liner (the smallest they had at Michael's) but it still seemed too big for the lashes. This being my first face-up, I did a lot of wiping and repainting.
I used Rembrandt Extra Fine soft pastels to paint on some blush at the cheeks and eyelids, but it didn't go on well. I think that I need to be more careful spraying on the DullCoat so that the texture is more even. Or not spray when it is damp, or something.
Poor baby, it is hard being the eldest, Mommy makes all of her mistakes on you!
Thick Kemper lashes were applied with white glue, I didn't trim them or feather them because I figure that I'll be redoing the face-up when I get my shipment of Mr. Superclear UV Cut anyhow. I just wanted to get some practice in and see how I could do (I don't have the steadiest hands for this kind of small painting).
Finally, Hand Glass eyes in Light Green and a Poshdoll wig in Black/Taupe (I think) finishes Mizu's temporary look. I need to style the wig somehow because the bangs seem poorly centered, and there is a big cowlick on the side. I'll try poring hot water over it and see if that settles it down. The color mixture is beautiful, though.
I want to dress her like an Elegant Gothic Lolita so I may experiment with some more dramatic makeup, but I want to enjoy her beautiful face for a while.
She is so sweet!
