Meme: 30 Days

Dec 14, 2009 00:31

It's December. Why not. It may help me combat my January blues, as well, when we wander into January with this. Also might get me writing LJ entries daily. That'd be strange and unusual behaviour.

From this point on I suspect they will all be LJ cut, especially as part of me thinks it may be easier to cut and paste the previous entry as opposed to anything else.

Day 01 → Your favourite song

I hate this question (good start!) I can't justify my favourite song, exactly, because it's not a song I listen to with alarming regularity (I think it was at least six months ago the last time thar I had it on). I also feel like a bit of a tosser as it is a "geek" song, one that other people won't have heard of, most likely, and quite a specific version of it. However, here goes: a (bootleg?) recording of Daniel Lanois' "The Maker", performed acoustically by Dave Matthews (and maybe Tim Reynolds?) Why is it my favourite song? It's unashamedly 'religious', for one thing, which is odd - part of it, though. I suppose because it's wrapped up in my history/development. Er. It's a beautiful song, too. It's one of the first I 'found' on my own. It captures the 'feeling' I most closely associate with the part of my youth that I felt (quite rightly, so far) would colour my understanding of the rest of my life: a turning point, as it were. I told you I hate this question: it's made me too cryptic, trying to justify the choice.

Good version, bad recording: link.
Worse version, better recording: link.
