Tip your head to the right side...

Hey at long last I have something to post! I finally finished the quilt top I have been working on so long. I began it last summer and spent ever so long trying to find fabrics and patterns that let those pretty peonies really sing. The Michael Miller peony fabric and the deep rose batik were the inspiration fabrics for this quilt. Funny that there ended up being more hydrangeas than peonies. I am really pleased with it though. The basic pattern layout idea I found in a Kaffe Fassett book. It is called Magic Carpet. But my fabrics while spring vibrant are very different than the Fassett fabrics. I did use one of his prints in the center of the pieced squares. It is a green paperweight print.I especially love the large checked border in purple and lavender. The 2 fabrics for that border looked so close in color until I stitched them together into this sort of medium contrast check. It feels sort of beach house glam to me.
It came out huge - 73" by 97". Bob photographed it for me by pinning it onto his seamless black duck (fabric - not quacking). It was too big to put it vertically on the background. The top is actually on the right hand side - not a huge difference though - mainly the red hydrangeas have a direction.
I know I will never be able to do a good job on my home machine and besides my shoulder aches just thinking about it...
So I will hire a longarm quilter to do the quilting for me. It will add at least 3 weeks to the process, but that is fine. The next thing to do is figure out what sort of quilting patterns I want.
