quick recap about winnepeg!!! shirley that made so many memories come up
1. MIKE!!! the ladies' man who had to wear diapers late into his childhood... and who can forget auntie may and uncle julian!!! macaroni and ham in soup for breakfast, and the gray living room that had a foldout bed, and a fireplace. kitchen was nice, remember the BROOM!! and the pantry :D the living room with the slanted ceiling and really old organ that we'd try to play.. then their master bedroom, where we spent the night that one time.. but it's really all about the basement, which was totally unfinished. the lights turned on with the pull of a string, and there were random boxes and old exercise machines and toys... yes the toys... and the gigantic tent we had down there... and tv shows.. and LONG JUMP for toys!! that was amazing... going to fort market with them (remember SPARKLY STAMPS! sometimes unicorn sometimes flower) and then his newfound interest in cooking. things were different after for sure, but he was still friendly. but different worlds. again.
2. SERENA!!! carpooling to go to gymnastics, the weird competitions, the IDENTICAL mazda car that we ate in and littered with crumbs. i don't really remember her house but i remember that acting we did once, in the backyard, with her as a witch, or was that me? and memory losses. eating at her house after school for snack, with the crunchy corn snacks.. so good. and auntie estella and uncle POKEEEEE. church activities... then meeting strangely enough in shanghai at the jc mandarin hotel for breakfast. not much changed... but it's nothing like the fun kid life we used to have.
3. ESTHER (and..jon -___-)!!! esther esther esther luk... the fun times at her house while her mom was away... polly pocket and the dolls in their two-storey houses and canopy beds... her room was always dark, but kind of glowing pastel pink and purple at the same time. the closet... oh and obviously sega genesis!! the sonic the hedgehog game... with my secret cheat code from alanna (BANANA pudding forever).. and then her basement where we made crafts and painted jewelry... flintstones orange pushpopsicles, that jon would NOT give me. jon the evil chinaman who punched me in the stomach and left me winded. those days were fun though.
4. NALANIE!!! my best friend from balmoral... i really wish i kept in contact... the pen pal thing died off in 3 years or so :( i still have her bracelet!! :\ well yeah the first time we met... "i like your lunchbox!! wanna be friends??" (cause hers was purple and hardcover like everyone else's of that era, and had PET SHOP characters all over it ^ u ^) and then all the fun stuff like sleeping over at her house, laughing at her little bro, watching aristocats at midnight, sleeping in her room under glowing stars and planets, decorating that last t-shirt with fabric paints as a goodbye thing...i wonder if she's still living in kentuckey. hmm.
5. BALMORAL HALL: teachers: ms. gotfried and mrs. milner (shivers at second name - wouldn't let me go to lunch without finding my library book and i cried; ms. gotfried the pretty one who rescued me and read me dinosaur books) mrs. bohonas (who always called me janice, but taught me how to read - the man in the van sits on a can?!?!) mrs. piper (all i remember is marshmallows after the math tests)... and NUMBER CRUNCHERS!! and gingerbread houses. and that book about jam and berries. oh and once i dressed up as a bumblebee pink fairy and they took my picture while i was standing against the bulletin board. and the other time i had to find something to do with 100 - so i found 100 crayons. and then i had my 'my litte pony'lunchbox even though i never wanted to go to school. and my first 'boyfriend' (only come to think of it.. ) in KINDERGARTEN... who was a white boy and we shared a milkshake but i ripped up the picture later. hahahaha it was SO set up by parents. anyways. katie b, samantha, susie, alexis, DANA (the mature one)... steph and samantha!! with the trampoline in their backyard..
lunchtimes were always fun because of the "mixed" grades... i remember that girl, laura, who was in grade 5 and was so MATURE... running for house prefect... and then that pretty girl patricia patagonia or SOMETHING like that... and once i flung crackers at another table and it landed in "prissy-girl"'s (kathleen?) soup.. she told lunch monitor and CARROT (katie? erin? can't remember, just red hair) got in trouble for it and i didn't say anything. later laura told the teacher it was me so i had to walk out to recess and apologize to carrot in the back playground. and the older girls were in drama productions like TOM SAWYER "ice cream, there's nothin more delectable than ice cream" and "money money money".
THE PLAYGROUND: normal stuff: trains, structures, swings (spider sitting) and see-saw horse... then the CRAZY hill... where i got stuck one winter because it had iced over and the bell rang and everyone left except for me and i couldn't climb up for hours. i remember veena and nalanie getting into a fight and then they built separate snow forts and i had to choose which one to go to. then there was choir room, where we sang songs like "lil lil lil little leprauchan" and other things, and once i peed my pants and had to go there anyways but no one noticed -_- (dude) and then there were the assemblies, and i think we had to sing hymns along with the national anthem (those were the good days) and someone brought salt-water taffy and i got a blue one. on the front lot there was another playground, which is where there were yellow slides and taller structures (scary) but that's where i hid after school when i didn't want to go to violin. and that's also where i took the wrong backpack home and had to call the school.
oh and once i made the toilet blow up.
