.Running With Scissors. - High Ceilings
The oddity that is the film feature "Running with Scissors", though not the most inspiring of films, added a semicolon of sorts to a train of thought that I had been nursing over the summer. I came to the conclusion that I must absolutely and resolutely strive to create SOMETHING.
If others choose to engineer synthetic biological lifeforms [Life 2.0], bake scrumptious tarts and concoct delightful sweetmeats, plunder an entire third world country's fortunes or go to the parlor for a 300 peso footspa [which is disturbingly unhygienic yet so complacently accepted by the general population as a luxury]~ then by thunder ~ I ought to have a say as well, shouldn't I? Others have made names for themselves with more mundane actions.
To bleed over a written page, to pour out one's guts into notes and tones, to sweat color unto a canvas and to weep over a technicolor 28mm - I believe - brings a small piece of a higher reality to this earth.
Enlightenment perhaps? 50+ years after Einstein, 500 + years after Da Vinci and 3000 + after Jesus Christ ~ the human race is still as dynamic as ever. The entire world must light up like fireworks if one takes a closer look into the buzzing brains of each and every human being.
The human race has billions of years to look forward to, and as Doctor Who [the 9th one] had said - why should we always think the worst? That we won't survive as a species when the sun finally implodes into a black hole?
Who knows, maybe we will?
It is a travesty then, to waste away the time that is accorded to us on this earth. No matter how short or long it is.
It can start with taking that vacation you've always wanted, calling up a grandparent, learning how to pole dance, taking methadone instead of heroin, finally finishing that video game, going clubbing ~ telling someone a secret, sharing a sandwich, flossing your teeth, singing a few more songs in the shower ~ no matter how simple, how complicated, how impressive or how ludicrous.
Its a step forward, for yourself and for those around you.
Now THAT, is something.
