When I was visiting my Mum and her friend in New York 2 weeks ago, I placed an order with the lovely Evan of
bjorkedoff. I've admired these baked goods from afar for a while now, so I was very excited to try both blueberry and peanut butter Danishes. As an extra, I also got some PB blondie with vegan Smarties, and a couple of delicious PB oatmeal cookies! (Photos courtesy of Evan, because I ate them too quickly).
We met up at one of my favourite places in the world, Lula's Sweet Apothecary. I got a sundae with PB&J ice cream, Rocky Road ice cream, marshmallow topping, hot fudge sauce, coconut whipped cream and a maraschino cherry on top. And as if that wasn't enough, I topped it with the PB blondie. So good.
The next day, we went to Counter. Again, I don't have many photos because the lighting was terrible, but here's my Mum enjoying the world's smallest burger.
The three of us girls had cocktails (mine being an XcocktailX, of course), and Garrett made the mistake of ordering a $5 coke, thinking it would be fancy. In fact, it came from a can. Garrett was full of rage.
"Oi mate, can I 'ave a sip o' your coke?"
I ordered a delicious raw vegan cheesecake. Doesn't sound like it'd work, does it? Wrong. I figure that if it can pass my taste test, it must be doing something right. Also, my friend
korsyn just got a job there as an assistant pastry chef, so I'm dying of jealousy that he gets to make these babies and get paid for it.
Back to Pittsburgh/Braddock, though.
I lost my wallet a few weeks ago. Miraculously, after two weeks, I got an email from my former University, informing me that someone had found it on the bus. Hurrah! We decided to meet up in a particularly student-y area of Pittsburgh, and I baked her thank you cookies:

Other things I have been baking recently include apple pie muffins, as modeled here by the lovely Garrett:
Less successful were my attempts at making croissants. I think I know where I went wrong, though, so... next time *shakes fists*
I have a few more photos of stuff I've been doing over the past couple of days, but I'll save that for after tonight, which is going to consist of homemade pizza made with DAIYA CHEESE, and Die Hard 4. Life is awesome.
