KARAOKE: Upon reflection...

This is the time for CHANGE. I guess that includes the karaoke market. This is what I'm up to as far as that goes over the next several months...

CTKARAOKE:

I AM going to update CTKaraoke.com. Some may like the new version, some may NOT. When I created the site, it was to be a central location for all karaoke knowledge with regard to where people could find karaoke around CT. I meant it to be as complete as possible. I have constantly solicited for suggestions to improve it, and gotten little feedback (some praise, some criticism on listed shows that aren't there anymore, but that's about it).

We are changing the model to a more commercial one. The membership model just didn't work well. The site actually COSTS me money to run. Not much, but still...it IS a labor of love. The site doesn't aggravate me to put together, I just only have so many hours in the day, so I focus on the parts of my business that are profitable. My time is worth money, just like everyone else's. The site will now be connected to CTKaraoke the magazine (yes, it's coming, I promise), and we will solicit ads from bars, restaurants, and KJ companies. This reflects the small interest in certain venues to assist us in growing the site. There will probably be some sort of rating system for venues, and not every karaoke location will be listed. There are REALLY BAD places for karaoke that have benefitted from being listed on the site, and that needs to stop.

Look for 2.0 sometime in early 2009.

BAR GIGS:

We will be increasing Lucky Star's karaoke presence in bars and restaurants. Can't tell you where or when yet, we have been talking with different locations and equipment is being purchased.

It's time, I think. The bars are a good training ground for new DJs/KJs, as long as the bars understand that I'm not hosting the show every week. They just don't pay well enough to make it worth my while for me to be at any bar every week. I will continue to focus on corporate accounts and special occasions.

I will be printing a new catalog in booklet form, I didn't think I'd need to, but karokaholics are programmed to look up songs in the catalog. Even the same 4 songs they sing every week.

I love karaoke. Even though I've got many irons in the fire, I still plan to be strongly involved with karaoke in this state.
