Of course it's no wonder after I don't know how many hours of no sleep and no food and all those squirrels hopping around in his head. They were probably hungry! I finally calmed them with some garlic bread and Cobb Salad (no bacon; bleu cheese on the opposite side of the salad from the turkey).
So, these delusions of his. On Tuesday, Lucia's new tutor, Lauren went with Lucia and Stephen and me to Jekyll & Hyde, one of our favorite restaurants. Stephen, for some reason (he couldn't give me any specifics) thinks that Lauren has the hots for me. Absurd. If there's anyone around to whom she's attracted, it's him. Who wouldn't be? He's also afraid that Tristan, the 20-year-old art student who lives in our building and works as a dog walker, isn't actually an art student, or if he is, his art is all of dogs dressed as humans. I think Stephen's squirrels are getting a little fanciful lately. Not enough protein in their diet, probably. I do, however, plan to ask Tristan, in a casual way of course, if I might see some of his work. Interest of a fellow artist and all that.
Lucia was really good at reading the menu and maybe a little too good at reading some of the signs we passed by while walking to Jekyll & Hyde. It's in Chelsea, after all, and well... for you West Coasters, that pretty much equals Castro. Not Tenderloin, just Castro. On Wednesday, Lauren taught her (by request) how to spell "guacamole." No doubt it will appear on every grocery list for the next year. Not that I'm complaining. So far (it's only been four days, but still) things with Lauren are working out well. I gave her her first raise on Tuesday. She's that amazing already. We're so lucky to have found her.
There's been some rain and I think it's coming close to sleeting at night. I've already promised Lucia that at the first sign of snowflakes I will wake her and take her up to the roof. Stephen and Lauren and practically everyone else we know in Manhattan have been instructed to call us when they see snow, just in case we don't see it when it starts.
I've been trying to think of something special to do for Lucia on her birthday (December 1st, a Wednesday, no school for her that day), and I'm hoping there might be enough snow outside of the City by then to go and play in. That's something she's never done on her birthday.
It's been a really great week. We've spent a lot of time with Stephen, and it's fantastic to just be so comfortable with each other. He's a damn good friend and Lucia and I are both thrilled to have him in our lives.
