Gerard Way's trial never happened. The man had made a deal with the District Attorney, a young hotshot named DeLeon to let him free in exchange for information about the Syndicate's only free boss, Geoff Rickley. Gerard's brother's body had been sent back to their hometown, along with the rest of the men at the standoff at Gabriel's expense. The payment had come from a false name, but even as he recovered, Gabe felt no desire to seek any more revenge.

Gerard was found dead of an apparent suicide in his loft shortly after he returned from Chicago. At the time of his death, Gerard was found to hold the titles to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Yankee Stadium, while an investigation into Mikey's finances showed deeds to City Hall and the Civic Center. The brothers weren't content to run the city. They were buying it piece by piece.

William came to with a severe concussion, his vision blurring slightly as he sat up in Gabe's plush office and looked around. Maja sat next to Travis, stroking his hand and pressing a soft kiss to his forehead as he let Dr. Trohman tend to his wounds. Pete was already bandaged, staring out the window and alternately touching the fedora and his own mouth. Gabriel was passed out on the couch, sedated and bandaged on his lower back. "He's lucky," Joseph had said when Bill crawled to him. "The shooter was so angry he missed his spine, liver, kidneys and appendix. Did catch the bottom of his lung though, but he'll be fine."

Matt and Andie were cuddled together, Andie tucked into Matt's good arm. Matt kissed her on the forehead and smiled at her as she turned to catch his mouth with her own. "We're out of this game, Matty." She said softly, silencing him with another kiss. "I'm tired of making you kill for me. I'm tired of being used. I want us to be together and no one else."

Matt nodded, smiling at her. "You have no idea how long I've waited to hear you say that. I don't know how we'll survive, but I want out of this life." He pressed another kiss to her lips.

"We don't have to worry how we'll survive, Matty... My family's loaded."

Gerard's testimony was enough to put the Syndicate under for good, damning everyone from Rickley to the street corner scumbags that ran their numbers games. Captain Attonito was shortly promoted to Chief of Police, and New York and New Jersey enjoyed a long period of freedom from the tyranny of men like the brothers and their associates. Rickley was put away for life and found murdered by one of his own men in his cell three weeks into his sentence.

With the Syndicate out of business, the Four were left to handle the fine city of Chicago and the commerce between cities. Gabe's imports business grew by leaps and bounds, and eventually he sent Nate and Victoria to California to run their shipping port in Los Angeles. It would eventually become the busiest port in the world, and the two would run a clean, tight operation with happy, well paid workers until they died of old age in the Malibu hills. William continued to make mergers and trades, but after the fight with the Syndicate, was a lot less apt to shoot someone for disagreeing. Not that it never happened again, but it happened a lot less. Adam replaced William and kept the investor meetings elite and important when William finally stepped down as Chairman.

Maja let Andie and Matt go, giving them her blessing to settle down wherever they chose. The couple settled in Milwaukee, taking in three homeless men just before the hard Wisconsin winter hit. The three men turned out to be good friends to the couple, and earned their keep by cooking, doing yard work and sewing, things Andie was no earthly good at. Matt was pleased with the family he'd gathered with Andie, and for the rest of their lives, the five lived together peacefully. Andie's ivory handled gun sat with Matt's brass knuckles in a locked box in her dresser, the only reminders of their past in their new home.

Travis continued to run the family, working with Governor Stump to keep violent crime to a minimum. Travis became a mentor to young businessmen, teaching them how to remain calm and collected, never giving up their goals for short term gain. The now Governor and the Boss remained friends, respecting each other and even getting together to play pool or cards every Saturday night.

Maja stepped down as the Madame of the house, letting Sierra take her place. Of all the girls, Andie and Sierra knew best what love could do for a woman's heart and body, and so the Madame felt fine leaving her in charge. Sierra and Mike remained together the rest of their lives, until Mike died of lung cancer and Sierra followed a week later, of what was rumored a broken heart.

The Commissioner made a run for Illinois governor, and with a little help from his friends (and their sizable campaign donations) won easily. Illinois became one of the busiest states in the union, and the Governor won his reelection easily and there was talk of the fine man from Glenview becoming President one day. Maja and Travis firmly endorsed him.

Patrick had the hardest time after the battle. He remained listless and heartbroken, so much so that his mother allowed him to come out of school and be tutored at home. The boy still moped around the house, going from a cheerful, smart alecky boy to a serious, thoughtful young man. He listened to jazz singers and only sang his own music with words taken from a tattered, handwritten book of poetry he'd borrowed from Pete's room.

Pete disappeared, resurfacing at his parents home and staying for a while in their comforting place, traveling to Europe alone and with them to see what there was to be seen in the world. Never again did he touch a weapon, swearing there was only one man who could make him, and that one man would never do so. Gabriel, William, Maja and Travis paid Pete a handsome salary long after he left their service, and the short, restless man never wanted for anything again the rest of his long life.
