Damn Kidneys!!

When it rains, it pours (no pun intended as I listen to the freezing rain outside).

Just a few weeks ago (18 days to be exact) I had a quick trip to the ER, followed by a quick trip to the doctor's office the next day, followed by a trip to outpatient surgery the day after to remove a pesky kidney stone (we lost count several years ago about how many I have had).  Figured I was good for at least a year, maybe more. Fast forward 15 days from the surgery and I again found myself in the ER last night. Not once, but TWICE. Was medicated well, sent home with good drugs (though I let the doc know I had a supply at home, he wanted me to have a stronger pain killer).

Got home and discovered the works weren't working. Called the urologist, who gave me a few suggestions, followed by "if/when you get uncomfortable head back up to the ER."  Tried the suggestions, no luck. Called the sitter who came right over, and we headed up to the actual hosptial ER. We had gone to the Urgent Care clinic affiliated with the hospital earlier. Same doctors, slightly more limited equipment and hours, but much faster to get in and out, and they were able to make me comfortable.

Arrived at the ER around 11:30 pm and was whisked right into triage and a room, which surprised me since it was obviously busy. Shouldn't have surprised me, once in a room, other than a bladder scan and a couple warm blankets we waited 3 hours before the doc even showed! He aplologized, and then recognized me from the trip to the ER a few weeks ago. By this time the earlier really good drugs given to me at the clinic had worn off and the works still weren't working. He sent DH home since it would be a few more hours, an IV was started (did I mention I have no veins and now  resemble and abused pin cushion) pain meds were given and after about 45 minutes I made another attempt to see if things were functioning. Viola! They were. I dozed a bit and the ER doc called the urologist at 5 am (he didn't want to call him earlier than that and wake him up. Urologist was most amused when I told him that this afternoon).  At which point I was discharged, called the hubster who came to pick me up and headed home to fall unconscious.

Appoint with urologist early this afternoon... this stone is larger than the last... surgery scheduled for this coming Tuesday.  May I just say... DAMN KIDNEYS!!!
