No Ordinary Girl
By: Amanda Shoberg

She dreamed not of butterflies, but corvids instead.
They crept into her mind as she lay in her bed.
That night as she dreamed about corvids and wings,
She saw herself soaring above everything.
She saw all the people.
She saw how they feel,
Some hurting, few happy, some praying to heal.
She loved all the darkness and the light too.
The best of both worlds, she saw and she knew.
Things will get better, she thought everyday.
They have to get better, they can’t stay this way.
Some kids at school stare, some look and see,
This beautiful girl, so wild and free.
She thought they were special, and she couldn’t wait.
Someday she’d tell them she thought they were great.
Size doesn’t matter, color as well,
She thought all their differences were really quite swell.
She made a great speech, and soon they all thought it.
For she was contagious,
And they had just caught it.
