[And around that corner the street looks to be mostly cleared of reanimated cadavers, and the brown-haired man leaning against a lamppost and catching his breath is just about covered in blood and grime as Lancer himself is.

The servant is noticed, red eyes meet red eyes, and Yuri nods slowly.]

...Nice horse.

...thanks.

[Liath Macha flicked his tail, snorting in what might have sounded like appreciation.]

[Not that Yuri'd talked to the other man much, but the few times he had brought to mind someone... far less somber. It was to be expected in the middle of a shitstorm like this, and yet at the same time it seemed uncharacteristic of Lancer]

How're you holdin' up? Y'look like hell warmed over.

[It wasn't like him, and Lancer damn well knew it. He had to pull himself together and fast--there was no way he could afford to be distracted in a place like this.]

[At least the fit of screaming rage had passed. That much, he was grateful for. Even if it meant he just felt weirdly detached from everything that was going on now.]

I've been better. What about you?

...Normally, I'd say "'bout the same." [He trails off, the meaning probably implicit: Lancer looks worse off than he does. It's not so much that he's suddenly sprouted tact, it's more that he's too tired to be rude -- even thoughtlessly rude.]

I'm just tired, anyway. Startin' to wonder if the drones are ignorin' the midnight rule 'cuz of this crap. No end to 'em...

Pretty sure even droned hordes of the undead don't follow rules, kid.

[Speaking of which, there was one shuffling up behind Lancer, apparently having decided he actually had a brain to eat.]

[Until Liath Macha kicked its head off.]

Tell me about it, had to rewrite half the rules on 'em as-I-know-it already. As far as "kid" goes--

[The near-petulant comeback was cut off faster than it could form, replaced as it was by a low whistle of appreciation.]

Nice horse. Damn nice horse indeed.

Heh. He's one of the most loyal friends I ever had.

So, these things got rules to 'em? news to me.

More like things they all seem to do. Habits, or somethin' like that. Y'know, shuffle around, act stupid, try to bite things.

Yeah, I kind of noticed that much.

...How much does it take to get infected?

Dunno. I learned a long ways back not to let anything that ain't human bite me if I could help it.

[A beat.]

...Humans too, come to think of it. Frikkin' weird if they did. Anyway, just gettin' splashed with the mess hasn't hurt me yet.

I figured as much, otherwise I'd be one. But I ran into a couple friends that caught this shit, I wasn't sure how much it took.

A bite seems like it's all they need. Makes getting 'em in one quick hit a bit of a pain... [He raises a hand, gore covered claw wavering inches from his face as his index finger taps the side of his own head.] That much still works, though.

What bites is that bunch of people don't get it, there's live heads on the ground here n'there. [A pause, and he nods towards Liath Macha.] Keep an eye out for 'em for your pal's sake.

We can take care of ourselves well enough. This horse is every bit as much a legend as I am.

[If a horse could give a derisive snort, that was exactly what the gray one at his side did.]

...Legend? Wha?

[Yuri grins good-naturedly.]

Seen you in action - and I'll admit you're damn good - but a legend? For serious?

[Really, Lancer. You're talking to someone who is both pretty dense, and who was never explicitly told you're a demigod.]

I'm the best there is. [His confidence came back somewhat at that, hands on his hips and an arrogant grin on his face.]

Name's Cu Chulainn, leader of the Red Branch Knights and demigod hero of Ulster. This is Liath Macha, the horse that killed over fifty enemies.
