Chapter Six

Epilogue
Sometimes he wakes from dreams about hands he doesn’t remember, about touches that bruise and dark places that hurt his head to think about. Sometimes he loses time, strange times, like when he’s driving down a road and suddenly he’s parked in a middle of a field next to a lake with no idea how he got there.
Sometimes he gets scared, of himself, of the dark and off the thousands of things he doesn’t remember. But each and every time warm arms will embrace him and smoky breath caresses his ear and suddenly the shadows aren’t so dark and the hurt fades to memories that get lost in the cloud of white where they dwell.
Other times he’s the one doing the holding. Arms tight around the fragile frame in his arms, and his voice whispering sweet reassurances in an ear, as his precious bundle sobs and shakes with remembered hurts and things he couldn’t forget no matter how much he wished he could.
They weren’t alright. But together they are happy and safe in loves warm embrace.
