What, you thought I could post just ONE? Hah!
Excerpts from a very excellent article on unbuilding the WTC. Also, go read the stuff by the same guy about airplanes and airplane crashes. It's oddly comforting. You'll have to search for it, though, 'cause it's in the archives.

Ryo, I expect to hear your thoughts on this one. :)
http://www.newyorker.com/critics/books/?020729crbo_books Antibiotics and Kids. This is an article I'm glad to see, because I think it's just scary how people over-medicate. And how their doctors permit/encourage it. I happen to know a mother who bought OTC penicillin for her kids (in Saudi Arabia, but US-ian kids and mom) and gave it to them at every sign of a sniffle. Also, I'm currently living in a culture that EXPECTS the doctor to give medicine, the more the better. You go to the doctor, and people don't ask you "What do you have?"... they say "What medicine did you get?" It's as though the doctor is totally worthless and you've wasted your time and money if you don't get 3 or 4 meds prescribed. And, what's more, I had a doctor prescribe me 3 meds for a low grade viral infection. One of which was Claritin. For TEN DAYS. Claritin, if I am correct, and I think I am, takes two weeks to reach peak efficiency. And is supposed to be taken long-term. Anyway. It's a subject on which people need to be educated. Maybe Minna Leigh will have something to say on the subject, even though pediatrics isn't really her bailiwick.* :)
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/07/23/health/23PEDI.html I love the word bailiwick. So much. As much as Angiv loves myrmidon. Hee.
