Ohhhh, its the beginning of a glorious Memorial Weekend. I feel super fortunate that I am on a consult service, and thus am not obligated to work on Monday.
So what are my big plans?
Well, tonight is J's 8th grade dance. J is in charge of the entire thing, so by default, I am also in charge of various dance aspects. I did not know about eighth grade dances, but apparently, they are a HUGE deal. Mind you, this is supposed to be a semi-formal dance. Girls are getting out of school to have their hair and nails done, trying to register their dresses, Moms calling to ask to reschedule the dance since it is the same day as cheerleading tryouts and their daughters won't have enough time to get ready and get to the dance. Sheeesh! They are eighth graders!!! Hopefully fewer of them will be pregnant than were at Prom.
Another example: During one of the multiple shopping trips, J had mentioned that we still needed napkins. I just happened to spot some on the clearance rack--they were cute, saying something about Happy New Year, Happy 50th birthday, etc. Being my usual frugal self, I suggested said napkins. I was reprimanded sharply with: "Sweetheart, this is the EIGHTH GRADE DANCE!!" I did not realize that the eighth graders would even use napkins, let alone read anything that was written on them.
Saturday morning, we are leaving for North Carolina to visit J's family for the weekend. I am excited, I love his family, and the drive is always beautiful (I"ll wave to you on the way down, Kels!) However, what makes this trip different from previous ones is that J's 19 month daughter will be with us. Having never travelled with a small child, I am slightly concerned about this. First of all, I get antsy after a couple hours in the car, I can't imagine a super hyper active kid will be content sitting in the car seat for 8 hours. Second, this is a long trip, during which I am sure we will need to stop multiple times for diaper changes, cleaning up puke/accidents, feedings etc. Maybe I will have a discussion with her about trip efficiency before we leave! Maybe we will need to purchase a car DVD player for the ride back....
Or I could slip her some children's benedryl. Hey, it worked for Ozzy!!
