Title: I need you... he said
Spoilers: none
Pairing: House/Cuddy (kinda)
Summary: post Informed Consent
'I NEED YOU' he said.
She only needed those three words to know that it was serious. He would never admit needing someone else, unless... unless he really needed someone else.
The ride from the hospital was fast, it all happened in a blur. She was too worried, too scared of what she might find, to enjoy the trip.
She arrived there and the door was sligthly opened. He was waiting for her. She paused in front of the door, her hand on the handle, trying to calm down. She could feel her heart bumping in her chest, her fast breathing and the cold sweat on her back. She inhaled deeply and pushed the door.
At first she couldn’t see a thing. Everyng was dark, the windows were covered with curtains and all the lights were off. It took her eyes a few seconds to get used to the darkness.
‘House?’ she asked softly, walking into the room.
Then she heard it: breathing. Labourious and fast breathing coming from the couch. And there he was, lying on his back, one arm covering his eyes and the other one busy grasping a cushion with all his strenght. His face was red, his jaw clenched.
She hurried to him, kneeling besides him.
‘House? I’m here’, she said, placing her hand on his chest softly, afraid of hurting him.
He didn’t move.
‘Cuddy I... I need a shot of morphine’
The weakness on his voice broke her heart. She nodded, althought she knew that he couldn’t see her.
‘Ok’, she replied. ‘I... I could call the hospital and...’
‘No’, he interrupted. He removed his arm and looked at her with red eyes. ‘Top shelve... box’ he said, indicating the bookcase behind them.
She nodded again, unable to speak. She used a chair to reach the shelve, and found what she was looking for. She sat on the chair and put the box on her lap before opening it slowly, afraid of what it may contain. She looked at the contents and gasped, then glanced at House who looked at her with pleading eyes. If he didn’t care she knew about his secret stash he was really desperate.
She got up and starting gettin ready.
‘Sit up and curve your back.’
He started moving slowly.
‘Let me help you.’ She helped him into a sitting position and removed his shirt. He curved his back painfully, without opening his eyes.
She took a syringe from the box and filled it with morphine from one of the bottles.
‘Ok, now don’t move.’
House nodded, eyes shut, a little tear rolling down his cheek.
Two minutes and everything was over. Cuddy helped him to lie down again on the couch and covered him with a blanket. He was exhausted. The look of relief on his face was enough for her to know that she had done the right thing.
‘Thanks’, he whispered.
‘You’re welcome.’
She stood up to leave but he grabbed her hand and look at her in the eye.
‘Don’t.’
She smiled at him and nodded.
House watched her as she made herself comfortable in the chair besides him. Then he closed his eyes and drifted to sleep.
