Summary: When Tony Stark takes a bullet intended for Steve Rogers, he wakes up in a world entirely peopled by alternate incarnations of everyone's favorite Star-Spangled Man. Welcome to Stevechester, Population: Steve
Why I like it: In many ways this is just the most epic and most hilarious fix-it for the fail that went on in the built-up to the Secret Wars event. If you’re a comics reader you’ll have the suspicion this might be the case the moment certain Steve’s turn up in the city, but the way it happens is maybe not a super surprising twist when it finally happens, but it’s a wonderful conclusion to what the whole story for the “World of Steve’s” mystery and the story has so skillfully set the groundworks for it that it’s just so very satisfying all around.
The premise and some of the cameo’s may be a bit cracky, but don’t be fooled: This is an amazing and fun exploration of the Steve/Tony relationship across the multi-verse. From married Steve and Natasha Stark to Ults to 616 and 1872. It’s just fun to watch MCU!Tony be thrown right into it and figure things out about the Steve’s and himself along the way. It’s very nice to figure things out along with Tony, even when you are aware of all the different verses and can put two and two together, but I imagine if you’re not as well versed in comics you’ll also enjoy the wackiness of it all and enjoy him figuring things out along with you.
There is some delicious near seduction with three morally ambiguous Steves, there is some evil leering from the bad!Steves - and there is Ults!Steve who has such an obvious crush that it’s just so adorable. (I loved the way MCU!Tony labeled him as Angry Steve. It just fits so well.)
This is hilarious and sweet. So many wonderful parts that made me just grin like a loon. Exactly the kind of humour and upbeat tone that I needed to get to grips with the mess that is current Marvel comics.
