TV Meme Days 6 & 7
Busy weekend helping out at the writer's festival on Bowen (of which Mom is the director, hence my being volunteered for it), and I totally forgot to do this yesterday. ^^ So here are days 6 and 7.
...Oh my god, I have no idea where to start. o.o Okay, if we're using the answer to #4 as our favourite TV show then that narrows it down a bit. Because otherwise I'm not sure what my favourite show would be; it changes frequently. But B5 is a constant in the background. :) So, favourite episode of Babylon 5... yikes. I never really used to think of the show in terms of individual episodes, but rather more in terms of story arcs, such as "the Shadow War" or "the war to retake Earth" or "the Centauri-Narn arc". And there are a lot of really really good episodes. So, let's go for top 5, in no particular order, most of which are fairly predictable to fans of the show but oh well:
2X09 The Coming of Shadows
One of the classics, and definitely one of the best. It's such a major turning point episode, both on a storyline level and in terms of the character arcs for Londo and G'kar. It's an obvious answer, but hey, it deserves it. :)
2X20 The Long Twilight Struggle
Likewise, obvious yet always so good. From the iconic and perfectly framed shot of Londo standing in the window of the ship watching the Narn homeworld be bombed, to G'kar's speech when he walks out of the council chambers at the end, it's a brilliant and powerful episode. That last scene always chokes me up...
3X08-3X09-3X10 Messages from Earth - Point of No Return - Shattered Dreams
Shaddup, I'm cheating and putting these as one episode. Hey, they technically do form a trilogy... easily one of the most pivotal arcs/trilogies/episode sets of the series, and too many awesome scenes to list. Namely, of course, Delenn showing up in Shattered Dreams in a Minbari war cruiser, being completely made of awesome and delivering one of the best quotes of the series. :)
Can I list the entire first 6 eps of season 4 as one episode...? Well I am anyway, because I can't really remember what happens in which episode and basically they just kind of run together for me. Namely, the scenes on Centauri Prime - the various fantastic scenes between Londo and G'kar, the pure awesome insanity that was Cartagia, VIR just in general (the little wave! killing Cartagia! the heartbreaking scene of him getting drunk after killing Cartagia! Good stuff, ya'll), Londo's dream of the Shadows landing on Centauri Prime coming true... so many fantastic scenes. Oh, and there's the little matter of the actual Shadow War coming to an end, of course...
For a bit of levity - 1X05 Parliament of Dreams is def one of my favourite eps, esp in terms of non-arc/story eps. It's such a wonderfully fun episode, and is usually one of the first I use to introduce the series to people. Londo getting drunk in that episode is still one of the funniest scenes of the series.
...damn, that's 5, isn't it? Well, more like 12 since I cheated. Basically I don't have a favourite episode of B5; there are just too many! I didn't even mention War Without End, or Endgame, or Comes the Inquisitor, or Day of the Dead, or Z'ha'dum, or Fall of Centauri Prime, or... there are too many. o.o
HAH this is easier, if we're still going off of Babylon 5 which I will because it makes life easier. For all the awesomeness of the show, there were a few truly dreadful episodes. Chief of them, imo, is 1X04 Infection - talk to any fan and they will likely agree that it's one of the absolute worst episodes of the show. Sure it introduces Franklin, and sure there is so very veiled foreshadowing of the Shadows, but... that's about it. Other runners-up include 3X19 Grey 17 is Missing, which I generally try to block out of my mind (not least considering that it's smack dab in the middle of some of the very best episodes of the show!), and 1X14 TKO which... I've mostly forgotten/blocked out, too.
