Slings and Arrows art + pimpage

So I've got a bit of a new obsession... When my aunt (who's an artistic director for the theatre) was visiting for Christmas, she recommended a little Canadian series called Slings and Arrows to my mom and I. I mentioned it briefly a few weeks ago, but have been meaning to make a larger post about it since I finished watching it. The show is about ( Read more... )

Gah sorry, I meant to reply ealier, but I was out all day yesterday then I threw my neck out and spent most of the evening on the couch trying not to move my head. -_-

Ehehe, true. ^^ You're still welcome to borrow them if you think you'll watch them. :)

Case in point re: rumpled look - this scene, in which he's wearing period costume and has just spent the night in jail. ^^ And heh, this one is cute too... (okay, now I'm just using this as an excuse to raid this screencap gallery...)

Anyway, I've decided to finally start watching dS - ch38 airs it every day at 5; I think they're in season 2... I watched the last couple of eps and am enjoying it. :) I have a certain amount of familiarity with it, partly from general fannish osmosis (I've seen fic for it floating around for years), partly from watching the occasional bits and pieces, and partly because Mom used to watch it when I was a kid. But yeah, I've downloaded the pilot ep to watch, and as soon as the North Van library gets season 1 back in (it's overdue... come on, person!) then I'll grab it from there.

Re; the drawing - thanks for the feedback. If it helps, this is the reference photo I used. He does kind of have that indent in his forehead, least in this picture, though perhaps I overemphasized it. I am quite fond of his clothing, though, yeah - annoyingly I think it may have turned out the best. -_- Likeness is so hard to pull off, yikes. I think he's recognizable, but yeah, his nose is a bit too long (just based on that ref photo) and I think his eyes are too small. And I'm not sure about the shape of his face.. I find men with his kind of facial structure hard to draw. ^^ The colouring could probably be more even, esp in some areas (his entire chin/mouth area just... have issues, and were a pain in the butt to paint), though I was generally going for a more sketchy/less photorealistic or polished look. :) I need to learn more about actual colour theory and painting techniques, because I've never really painted... (then I look at pieces of fanart like this Supernaturnal drawing and promptly despair. ^^ Isn't that gorgeous, though??)

(sorry for the ramblings... I'm procrastinating. ^^)

S'okay. :)

Thanks. We'll see.

Mmm, okay, point. He can pull off the rumbled look. :)

Ah, I see. You did overemphasize the dent, though. Likeness is definitely hard to pull off. I find people hard to draw period, so points to you regardless! Fair enough on the sketchiness. You'll get to the level of the Supernatural drawing someday. You just have to keep working at it. :)
