FF concert, etc

Typing this on my blackberry at work (am wary of using their computers for personal stuff...) Because as usual there's nooothing to do. ^^; I know I haven't posted about the job yet, I've just been so busy... Getting used to waking early and commuting to work. And havig to go to bed early, woe. So yeah, not much time when I get home to enjoy myself...

Anyway, last night was the Final Fantasy Distant Worlds concert! I've been so excited about this, I've been waiting forever for these concerts to make it to Vancouver. And evidently we were the Canadian premiere, so yay! :) it was amazing... Getting to hear the classic songs from the series performed by a live orchestra, it was mesmerizing. They started off with Liberi Fatali (sp? Going from memory...), the FFVIII opening, which sounded fantastic live and with a chorus. Then they played To Zanarkand from FFX, which is a beautiful song to begin with, and played live is just magical. - was completely transfixed throughout it... Lesse, it's a bit of a blur from there, but they played a ton from FFVIII for some reason (I mean, I like VIII and all, but geez. I would have preferred less VIII and more of the earlier games...). They played the chocobo theme with accompanying video, including the old fashioned little chocobo sprites running around. Pretty cute. Oh, and Vamo'Alla Flamenco from FFIX, which sounded fantastic.

After the intermission were most of the best songs, imo. The FFVII main theme (North American premiere of it, yay us!), Aeris's Thene (always beautiful...), FFIV's Theme of Love (with accompanying video from the DS version which I hadn't seen, very cool!), some stuff from XI I'm not familiar with, and finally the FFVI opera, complete with 3 singers and some amusing footage from the original game. Amazing to see that performed live, wow. I was very happy it was included. Though they changed the words, heh - I used to have it memorized years ago... Remember, garran, how we used to sing it? God, that was 10 years ago now... o.o wow. I still have a .wav file of us singing it on my computer. I suspect it's terrifying...

Anyway, I was getting a bit worried at this point because they hadn't played One Winged Angel yet and the opera was the last piece... Course, I should have realized there would still be encores. :) they got a very enthusiastic standing ovation, then came back to play Terra's Theme which I wasn't expecting because it's not on the online program (which does vary from show to show a bit, but still!). I totally teared up during it, it's so pretty... Then after some more wild applause the conducter came back out for a "final encore". Moment the chorus stood up we all knew, and when the first chords played everyone cheered. And yeah, hearing One Winged Angel performed live is unbelievable. So intense. It was the perfect way to end the night. Everyone lept to their feet, and the conductor actually came back out one last time. I gotta say I was hoping we'd get the FF Main Theme, but they just did the 2-second battle victory music to end it for real. Oh well.

So yeah, in conclusion... Great night. Really glad I went, and I hope they come again. Only regret was I'd hoped to hear the FF Main Theme, which I love and which would have totally made me tear up... Oh well. It was also really great to see bk635 again, since we haven't seen each other or talked much in about 6 months... Didn't get too much time to talk, but it was still nice.

Anyway, my fingers are all cramped now. Ow. So that's long enough...
